Malviya Nagar Fire: PM Modi Announces PMNRF Relief For Victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday voiced his sadness over the loss of life caused by the fire in Malviya Nagar and declared financial assistance for families affected by the disaster.

The government will provide ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the families of each deceased victim. Injured individuals will receive financial support of ₹50,000.

Through a statement shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on X, PM Modi offered sympathies to those mourning the loss of family members. He also expressed hope for the quick recovery of those undergoing treatment and said authorities were providing necessary assistance to those impacted by the incident.

The Prime Minister’s response came shortly after a major fire engulfed a multi-storey building housing the Lemon Green Restaurant in South Delhi.

Authorities have confirmed that the incident resulted in at least 20 fatalities. The fire also left numerous people injured, many of whom required immediate medical attention.

Rescue teams evacuated 37 people from the building and transported them to nearby hospitals.

Officials indicated that several patients continue to battle serious injuries.

Teams from Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, and other rescue organisations continue to operate at the scene. Senior officers are coordinating rescue efforts and reviewing the situation on the ground.

Emergency services dispatched ten fire engines immediately after receiving reports of the blaze.

Although firefighters successfully contained the fire, it caused substantial destruction within the building.

Officials stated that some occupants attempted to escape the flames by jumping from higher levels of the structure.

Rescue personnel are carrying out detailed searches across multiple floors to locate anyone who may still be unaccounted for.

Investigators have begun examining the circumstances that led to the fire.

Authorities will likely release further information once the ongoing inquiry progresses.
