A major fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office located in the historic Kaiser-i-Hind building at Ballard Estate, South Mumbai.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
According to officials, the fire erupted around 2:30 a.m. on the fourth floor of the five-storey building, situated near the Grand Hotel on Currimbhoy Road.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade received an emergency call shortly after the blaze began and immediately dispatched firefighting.
Fire Declared Level-II Within An Hour
Firefighters and rescue personnel responded swiftly. By 3:30 a.m., authorities had classified the incident as a Level-II fire—an indication of its serious nature.
The fire brigade control room confirmed this escalation in severity.
Luckily, the ED office was unoccupied at the time of the incident. As a result, there have been no reports of injuries or loss of life.
Massive Firefighting Operation Launched
The fire department deployed a total of 12 firefighting units to tackle the blaze.

This included eight fire engines, six jumbo tankers, an aerial water tower tender, a breathing apparatus van, a rescue van, a quick response vehicle, and an ambulance from the 108 emergency service.
As of now, officials have not determined the cause of the fire. A spokesperson for the Mumbai Fire Department stated, “The cause of the fire is not clear yet.”
Investigations are underway, and further updates are expected.
Fire Follows Tragic Incident In Andheri
This fire incident comes less than 24 hours after another blaze claimed a life in Mumbai.
A fire broke out in the Broke Land Building in Lokhandwala, Andheri (West), on Saturday, killing a 34-year-old woman and sending six others to hospital.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade received the alert at 2:39 a.m. and declared it a Level-I fire.
A short circuit likely caused the fire, which destroyed electric wiring, AC units, furniture, and personal belongings on the first floor of the eight-storey residential building.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities continue to probe both incidents. While the Andheri fire has been traced to an electrical fault, officials are still working to establish the cause of the ED office blaze.
