After a considerable lull, Maharashtra has registered a Covid-19-related death, marking the first fatality in months. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) clarified that this death did not occur recently; it actually took place back in July. The BMC noted that the death was officially recorded on Wednesday.
Dr Daksha Shah, the BMC’s Executive Health Officer, mentioned that the deceased was a 75-year-old man with a history of liver carcinoma. While the man had contracted Covid-19, the infection was not the primary cause of his demise.
In the meantime, Mumbai reported 10 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing its total infection count to 11,64,108. Unfortunately, this additional death pushed the fatality toll to 19,776. The previous day, the city reported seven Covid-19 cases and no fatalities.

This marks the second instance in August when the city reported Covid-19 cases in the double digits. On August 6, the city recorded 10 cases. The number of recoveries increased to 11,44,285 after an additional four patients recuperated from the respiratory illness. As a result, the metropolis currently has 47 active cases, as stated in the bulletin.
The civic body reported that a total of 292 tests were conducted in the city on that day, contributing to the cumulative count of tests, which now stands at 1,89,17,951.
