Maha Kumbh: A Spiritual Festival Boosting Prayagraj’s Economy

The ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, under the leadership of the Yogi government, has witnessed over 7 crore devotees taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during Paush Purnima and the Amrit Snan of Makar Sankranti, significantly contributing to the Maha Kumbh economy.

The influx of crores of pilgrims and tourists has not only brought pride to Prayagraj but has also provided a substantial boost to the city’s business and economy.

Industries such as hospitality, food, woollen clothing, blankets, quilts, mattresses, and electronics have experienced a 30-40% surge in sales.

Notably, traders in Prayagraj are optimistic as preparations for the Maha Kumbh 2025 continue. Business growth is evident across all sectors.

Even in the initial stages of the Maha Kumbh, retail and wholesale businesses in the city have reported a two- to three-fold increase in sales.

Traders Celebrate Success Of Maha Kumbh Economy

The business community has expressed satisfaction with the Uttar Pradesh government’s efforts.

From the hotel industry to retail businesses and the textile sector, all have experienced significant growth over the past week.

Harjinder Singh, President of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Prayagraj, stated that the hotel industry has made exceptional arrangements for pilgrims and tourists arriving from outside.

The organizers are prioritizing the comfort and convenience of visitors, leading to a large number of bookings.

Hotels in Prayagraj have reported a 30-40% increase in profits, with expectations of up to 50% growth in the coming days.

Singh further highlighted that the grand and divine Maha Kumbh being organized under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is unparalleled in Prayagraj’s history.

Shiv Shankar Singh, General Secretary of the District Business Association, noted a rise in sales of FMCG products, automobiles, CCTV cameras, cables, and food items.

The retail business in Prayagraj has grown by approximately 20-25% until the Makar Sankranti Snan. Traders remain hopeful for even higher sales on the day of Mauni Amavasya.

Kadir, the District President of the Business Board, mentioned that sales of food items, grains, pooja materials, clothes, blankets, mattresses, electronics, and tent fabric have doubled so far.

With the progression of the Maha Kumbh, further growth is anticipated.

The business community has praised the Yogi government for the well-organized conduct of the Maha Kumbh.

While traffic challenges remain for traders and residents, they emphasize that pilgrims and tourists are the backbone of their businesses.
