A devastating road accident in Madhya Pradesh claimed ten lives and left 39 individuals injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a pickup vehicle late Thursday night.
The victims were travelling back from a Chief Minister’s beneficiary programme held in Saunsar town.
A specialised medical team from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College reached the district hospital in Chhindwara to support ongoing treatment.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sushil Dubey confirmed that seven senior doctors, including surgeons, joined the local medical staff. They are assessing patients and administering care based on CT scan evaluations.
State minister Rakesh Singh arrived from Jabalpur shortly after midnight. He reviewed the situation and interacted with doctors and officials. He confirmed the casualty figures following a detailed assessment.
Authorities shifted two critically injured individuals to a medical facility in Nagpur for advanced treatment. Doctors continue to monitor the remaining patients at the district hospital.
Preliminary findings indicate that the accident occurred when the bus attempted to overtake another vehicle. It subsequently collided with a garlic-laden pickup truck, causing the bus to overturn.
Investigators suspect excessive speed and negligent driving as primary factors.
The district administration has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed profound grief and directed officials to ensure prompt medical assistance. He also instructed the deployment of expert teams to Chhindwara and Nagpur to manage the crisis effectively.
