Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 4: Full list of candidates
The Lok Sabha elections are gearing up for the fourth phase, set to commence on May 13, encompassing 96 seats across 10 states and Union Territories. A total of 1,717 candidates will vie for victory in this phase. Notable among them are those contesting from Andhra Pradesh (25 constituencies) and Telangana (17 constituencies), which will vote in a single phase. Other states participating include Chhattisgarh (5), Jharkhand (4), Madhya Pradesh (8), Maharashtra (11), Odisha (4), Uttar Pradesh (13), West Bengal (8), and Jammu and Kashmir (1).
The voter turnout percentages in the preceding three phases were 66.1%, 66.7%, and 65.68%, respectively. Upon the completion of the fourth phase, 379 seats will have concluded voting.
Key candidates in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 include:
Akhilesh Yadav (Kannauj, UP): The Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav, seeks to reclaim victory in his family bastion, Kannauj, challenging BJP’s Subrat Pathak. Having previously served as Lok Sabha MP from 2000 to 2012, Yadav resigned from the Kannauj seat in 2012 upon assuming the role of Uttar Pradesh’s CM.
Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni (Kheri, UP): Union Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra Teni, aims for a third consecutive win from Kheri. Despite controversy surrounding his son’s involvement in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, Teni secured victory in 2019. His competitor, Dr. Purvi Verma of the Samajwadi Party, poses a challenge.
Mahua Moitra (Krishnanagar, West Bengal): Trinamool Congress’s Mahua Moitra faces BJP’s Amrita Roy in Krishnanagar. Moitra emerged victorious in 2019, surpassing BJP’s Kalyan Chaubey and CPI(M)’s Shantanu Jha. However, she recently faced expulsion from the Lok Sabha.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury (Baharampur, West Bengal): West Bengal Congress chief and incumbent MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury competes against former Team India cricketer Yusuf Pathan and BJP candidate Nirmal Saha. Chowdhury has held the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat since 1999.
Asaduddin Owaisi (Hyderabad, Telangana): AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi defends his seat in Hyderabad against BJP’s Madhavi Latha. Owaisi secured a significant victory margin in 2019, while BJP’s Bhagavanth Rao trailed.
Giriraj Singh (Begusarai, Bihar): BJP’s Giriraj Singh faces off against CPI candidate Awadhesh Rai in Begusarai. Singh emerged triumphant in 2019 against CPI’s Kanhaiya Kumar.
Nityanand Rai (Ujiarpur, Bihar): BJP’s Nityanand Rai secured victory in Ujiarpur in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He faces competition from the BLSP in this general seat.
