The dates for the Lok Sabha Election 2024 have been officially announced by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar during a media briefing at Vigyan Bhawan. The voting process will be conducted in 7 phases across the country, commencing from April 19 and concluding with the seventh and final phase on June 1. With the announcement of the election dates, the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight over the announcement of the election dates through a post on social media platform X. In his message, he stated, “The biggest festival of democracy has arrived.”

On Friday, March 15, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu assumed their roles as Election Commissioners. The selection panel, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had appointed them as Election Commissioners on Thursday, March 14. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar extended a warm welcome to both the newly appointed Election Commissioners.
The Lok Sabha elections held in 2019 were conducted in seven phases, with the Election Commission announcing the dates on March 10 of that year. Voting for the first phase took place on April 11, while the last phase concluded on May 19. The election results were declared on May 23. During the 2019 elections, there were over 91 crore voters in the country, with a voter turnout of 67 percent. This time, an awareness campaign is being conducted to encourage more voters to exercise their franchise.
