Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said India is undergoing an unprecedented transformation in its infrastructure and logistics sectors. He noted that this shift is laying a strong foundation for economic growth.
Singh addressed the third convocation of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya in Vadodara through a virtual platform.
He stated, “The stronger the logistics services, the stronger our borders remain.”
He explained that the timely delivery of defence products and food supplies boosts the morale of border forces.
Singh called the logistics sector a ‘game changer’ for 21st-century India. He highlighted that it offers vast opportunities for youth and urged them to contribute actively to building a developed India.
Govt Pushes Logistics Through Multimodal Hubs
The Defence Minister also pointed to government initiatives like multimodal transport hubs and mission-mode projects. These steps, he said, have helped reduce logistics costs and promoted data-driven decision-making.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also addressed the event. He serves as Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya. He said Indian Railways has seen major changes in the last 11 years.
Notably, in the past year, the rail network expanded by 5,300 km. Tunnel construction reached a total of 368 km.
Vaishnaw stressed the need to build human resources across sectors. He said institutions like Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya play a key role in this effort. He urged the university to explore marine engineering research and partnerships with marine industries.
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya Honours Students; Signs MoUs
The Minister described the university as the ‘engine of development’. He encouraged students to support the goal of a developed India by 2047.
The university has signed MoUs with nearly 40 industrial and educational organisations.
At the convocation, 194 students received degrees. One student from each course received the Academic Excellence Award. Other awards included Best Student and Outstanding Project.
Vice Chancellor Professor Manoj Choudhary welcomed guests and shared the university’s performance over the last three years.
Vadodara MP Dr Hemang Joshi, Rajmata Shubhangini Raje Gaekwad, senior officers from the Army and Railways, students, and parents attended the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisioned Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya as India’s first transport-focused university. It promotes education, research, and training in logistics and infrastructure.
The university aligns with the broader PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
This master plan aims to build a unified and efficient infrastructure ecosystem. It connects 16 ministries on a single digital platform.
The goal is integrated planning and joint implementation of projects in railways, roadways, ports, and waterways.
