LMC To Get AI-Enabled Robotic Trash To Clean Gomti River

These trials will continue for the next 30 days after which the trash boat will be handed over to the municipal corporation.

The Centre for Innovation Policy and Social Change ( CIPSC) has developed an AI-enabled robotic trash boat to accelerate the cleaning work of the Gomti river in Lucknow.  Its trial run was done at Laxman mela ghat on Wednesday in the presence of divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob and secretary environment Ashish Tiwari.

These trials will continue for the next 30 days after which the trash boat will be handed over to the municipal corporation.

CIPSC director Karishma Sabharwal said “Boat’s mesh is capable of taking out even the smallest of river waste. The boat can be controlled by a person remotely. The sensor installed on the boat brings it automatically to the shore after two quintals of trash is collected.”

This self-propelled boat is equipped with solar panels and the same remains its complete source of energy. It also has a front-facing camera that detects plastic and other kinds of waste in the water to be collected. The waste-storage capacity in it is 200 kilograms which was advised to be expanded in the trial run. GPS installed in the trash boat would help with real-time monitoring.
This trash boat seems a big help in the mission of cleaning Gomti, though its success would be determined only after due course of time.
