Lalu Prasad Yadav Calls for punishment in Kolkata rape case

On Saturday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav condemned the Kolkata rape case at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. He described the crime as “heinous” and demanded “the harshest possible punishment” for those responsible.

Lalu Prasad Yadav emphasized the gravity of the situation and called for justice for the victim and her family. He also expressed support for the widespread protests by doctors across the country. “A heinous crime has been committed. Such incidents are deeply troubling. The victim must receive justice. The protesting doctors deserve justice too,” he stated about Kolkata rape case.

In response to the brutal incident, doctors nationwide have initiated extensive protests. They are demanding justice for the victim and calling for enhanced protection for medical professionals at all hospitals and clinics. This surge of protests has disrupted healthcare services significantly.

In Patna, for instance, doctors have suspended emergency and outpatient (OPD) services at major hospitals. Institutions such as Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), and Patna AIIMS have been affected. This suspension of services highlights the doctors’ frustration and concern over their safety.

The protests also highlight the urgent need for better security measures to safeguard healthcare workers and prevent future violence.

Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad Yadav traveled to Delhi on Saturday. Sources indicate that he is likely to head to Singapore soon for a routine health checkup. Yadav underwent a kidney transplant in Singapore on December 5, 2022. His daughter, Rohini Acharya, donated her kidney for the procedure.
