Senior Congress leader Kumari Selja addressed the media on Tuesday, emphasizing that it is premature to draw conclusions based on early trends in the Haryana Assembly elections.
Despite indications of a competitive race, Selja expressed unwavering confidence in Congress’s prospects of securing victory.
“Congress is winning. One should not draw conclusions so early. Counting is still underway. One should not be hasty,” Selja stated in an interview with IANS, countering reports suggesting a resurgence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
As the counting unfolded, the Haryana elections emerged as a closely contested battle, with both the BJP and Congress trading leads.
As of 12:00 PM, the latest trends from the Election Commission indicated that the BJP is edging ahead, securing leads in 50 of the 90 assembly seats.
In contrast, Congress is leading in 34 constituencies, defying initial expectations from exit polls that had predicted a sweeping victory for the party.

Selja maintained that the final results would favor Congress, asserting, “We will form a government in Haryana.”
She highlighted the unity within the party under the leadership of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, noting that everyone in the party fought the elections together.
The counting began at 8 AM, with Congress initially taking a slight lead over the ruling BJP.
However, the BJP quickly gained momentum within a couple of hours, establishing a more substantial lead.
Regional parties such as the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) struggled to make significant inroads, with each party leading in just one seat.
Key candidates are also making their mark; Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini was reported leading in his Ladwa constituency, while Congress heavyweight Bhupinder Singh Hooda was ahead in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi.
BJP’s Anil Vij was leading in Ambala Cantt, and INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala held a lead in Ellenabad, according to early trends.
Reflecting on the previous Haryana Assembly elections in 2019, where the BJP won 40 seats and Congress secured 31, Selja noted the dynamics have shifted since the BJP lost five out of ten seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
This setback has fueled optimism within Congress to replicate its past successes in the state.
As the counting continues, all eyes are on the results, with Selja urging party supporters to remain patient and hopeful for a favorable outcome.
