Kolkata Police have issued a summons to TMC Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Sekhar Ray for questioning, officials said on Sunday. Ray will appear at the Kolkata Police headquarters in central Kolkata by Wednesday afternoon.
The summons comes shortly after Ray’s social media post called for the custodial interrogation of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, and Vineet Kumar Goyal, the Kolkata Police Commissioner. Ray’s post demanded that the CBI question these individuals in connection with the recent rape and murder of a junior doctor from the hospital.
While police officials have remained tight-lipped about the exact reason for the summons, insiders suggest that Ray is being questioned due to “incorrect information” in his social media post.

In his post, Ray criticized the investigation, stating, “CBI must act fairly. Custodial interrogation of Ex Principal and Police Commissioner is a must to know who and why floated the suicide story. Why was the hall wall demolished? Who supported Roy’s influence? Why was a sniffer dog used three days later? There are hundreds of such questions. Make them speak.”
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has publicly opposed Ray’s demand for questioning the city police commissioner. Ghosh stated, “I also demand justice in the RG Kar case. However, I strongly oppose this demand regarding the CP. After receiving information, he did his best. Personally, the CP was doing his job and the investigation was focused. This kind of post from a senior leader is unfortunate.”
Additionally, the Kolkata Police have summoned BJP leader Locket Chatterjee, along with two doctors, for allegedly making controversial social media posts. These posts reportedly revealed the identity of the victim. Police insiders indicated that there are complaints against Chatterjee, an actress-turned-politician, and the two doctors for spreading misinformation that could potentially incite tension.
Thus, the situation remains tense as various parties and officials navigate the ongoing investigation and public scrutiny.
