Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju issued an apology to social activist Anna Hazare on Monday, acknowledging the anarchy and corruption that has plagued both Delhi and the nation.
Rijiju’s apology came in the wake of Hazare’s critical comments regarding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s political career and recent resignation.
Following Kejriwal’s announcement of his resignation and his call for early elections, Anna Hazare reflected on his earlier warnings to Kejriwal.
Hazare had advised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader against pursuing politics, suggesting that true satisfaction lay in social service rather than political office.
Hazare remarked, “I had already advised Kejriwal not to enter politics. I explained multiple times that true fulfilment lies in social service, but he did not listen. I have been saying from the beginning that Arvind Kejriwal should not have ventured into politics. He chose not to heed my advice.”
“What has happened now was inevitable. I cannot know what is in Arvind Kejriwal’s heart,” Hazare further added.

In response to Hazare’s comments, Rijiju took to social media, expressing regret for the current state of affairs.
He posted, “We feel sorry for Anna Hazare Ji but more than Anna Ji, it has become a huge liability for the people of Delhi and to some extent, whole country. We also never thought that anarchy and corruption will be made virtues.”

Hazare, who had previously collaborated with Kejriwal during the anti-corruption movement at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, also expressed disappointment over Kejriwal’s involvement in the Delhi excise policy case.
Hazare had previously criticized Kejriwal’s shift from anti-liquor activism to formulating liquor policies, calling his arrest a direct result of his own choices.
Kejriwal’s resignation and the call for early elections have sparked a political controversy.
Critics, including the BJP and Congress, have questioned the timing and authenticity of his resignation.
The BJP accused Kejriwal of staging a drama, alleging that he had become a CM on bail due to court restrictions.
Congress dismissed the resignation as a gimmick, arguing that it bore no real connection to ethical governance.
As Kejriwal prepares to step down officially on 17 September, he has vowed not to return to his position until he receives a certificate of honesty from the electorate, intensifying the political debate surrounding his decision.
