Kharge’s ‘Poisonous Snake’ Remark Mirrors Congress’s Divisive Politics: Dr Rajeshwar Singh

Dr Rajeshwar Singh criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s description of an issue as a ‘poisonous snake’, calling it no ordinary slip.

He emphasised that the remark reflects decades of the party’s appeasement-driven and divisive politics, prioritising vote banks over justice and equality.

Dr Singh cited the 1986 Shah Bano case, saying the Supreme Court overturned the ruling, compromising a Muslim woman’s rights.

He also noted the 1995 Waqf Act, which raised serious concerns regarding land management. Referring to the 2011 proposed Communal Violence Bill, he said it faced widespread criticism for attempting to bend the law on communal lines.

The party’s long-standing opposition to the Uniform Civil Code, he added, demonstrated selective secularism that often divided rather than united society.

Dr Singh explained that when political strategy centres on appeasement, toxic language becomes inevitable.

He stressed that India today has progressed along the path of development, equality before the law, and national interest, while Congress remains anchored in outdated thinking.

Calling Kharge’s statement ‘regrettable but not surprising’, Dr Singh underscored that the nation’s growth contrasts sharply with the party’s continued reliance on divisive narratives.

He emphasised that governance must be guided by fairness, law, and unity, rather than political expediency.

Dr Singh concluded that India’s journey highlights the importance of development-oriented leadership and responsible political discourse, reinforcing the message that unity, equality, and justice must prevail over rhetoric that seeks to divide communities for short-term gains.
