Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram launched a sharp attack on the Chennai Corporation on Tuesday, criticizing its failure in waste management, poor road conditions, and stray animal control.

He said that broken pavements, pothole-ridden roads, and unmanaged garbage have become the city’s identity.

His comments came after the Namma Chennai X handle posted about an upcoming study tour of Chennai officials to Europe in May.

The World Bank is set to support this visit to cities like Barcelona for learning advanced waste management techniques.

Reacting to the post, Chidambaram questioned the effectiveness of such tours.

Taking to X, he posted, “Can the @chennaicorp name one learning & implementation of a practise from any of the previous study tours? Poor garbage management, street dogs & cattle, broken sidewalks & potholed roads is the hallmark of Chennai. Visit Indore to start with.”

Chennai residents have long struggled with heaps of garbage, open filth, and deteriorating road conditions.

Many areas are filled with foul-smelling waste, increasing health risks.

Stray dogs and cattle further add to pedestrian woes, while broken pavements make walking difficult.

Chidambaram’s criticism highlights growing public frustration with the city’s infrastructure.

His remarks also raise questions about the effectiveness of foreign study tours if they do not lead to tangible improvements.
