HD Revanna, a prominent Janata Dal (Secular) MLA and former minister
High Drama unfolded in Karnataka politics as HD Revanna, a prominent Janata Dal (Secular) MLA and former minister, was arrested by Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials on Saturday. This arrest came swiftly after a Bengaluru court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea. The case against him revolves around allegations of kidnapping and sexual abuse linked to his son, Prajwal Revanna, who is also a member of parliament.
The case stems from a complaint filed by the son of a woman, reportedly in her 60s, who went missing on April 28. Allegations suggest that HD Revanna’s son, Prajwal Revanna, along with a confidant, Sathish Babanna, sexually abused the woman. Videos allegedly show the victim pleading with Prajwal Revanna to stop. Babanna, acting purportedly under HD Revanna’s instructions, was arrested earlier in connection with the case.
HD Revanna faces charges under sections 364(a), 365, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, including kidnapping for ransom and abducting with the intent to confine a person. The victim was found more than five days after her disappearance at a farmhouse belonging to Rajashekar, HD Revanna’s personal assistant, in Kalenahalli village, Mysuru.
The case has reverberated through the political landscape, especially with Lok Sabha elections looming. Explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna surfaced, prompting the Karnataka government to form an SIT to investigate the allegations. The political blame game ensued between the Congress and the BJP-JD(S) combine.
Speculation mounts as reports suggest Prajwal Revanna may have left the country. Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s office hinted at the possibility of the CBI issuing a “Blue Corner Notice” against the JD(S) MP. This notice, if issued, would seek additional information about his whereabouts and activities related to the alleged crime from member countries.
The arrest of HD Revanna in connection with the kidnapping and sexual abuse case has sent shockwaves through Karnataka’s political corridors. As investigations unfold and legal proceedings progress, the case is poised to have significant ramifications on the state’s political landscape
