Amid growing speculation over a cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka, more than 20 senior MLAs from the ruling Congress are likely to visit Delhi to meet the party high command.
The move comes against the backdrop of an ongoing leadership tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
With the Congress government completing three years in power, experienced legislators, many elected three to five times, are seeking opportunities and intend to present their case before AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and the national leadership.
Party insiders indicate that the reshuffle could trigger friction between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. Both have prepared separate lists of preferred candidates.
Sources also suggest that the high command has its own list under consideration.
Seven-time MLA TB Jayachandra confirmed that the delegation comprises senior leaders who have significantly contributed to the party.
“MLAs who have been elected three, four, and five times have come together, held a meeting, and decided to go to Delhi. This cabinet under the Congress government has completed three years, and two years of its term remain. In the event of changes in governance, we are putting forward our candidature. We are not approaching the high command through any intermediaries,” he stated.
Jayachandra emphasised that the reshuffle must consider political calculations, caste equations, and social justice.
“We have discussed our strategy to present our case before the high command. The final decision rests with them,” he asserted.
Jayachandra noted that demands from both senior and junior legislators are reasonable. He reiterated that the Chief Minister is aware of the planned visit.
Jayachandra will likely leave for Delhi on Sunday, with other MLAs joining by evening.
The group plans to meet on Monday, expressing confidence that a cabinet reshuffle is likely, though its outcome remains uncertain.
