Pro-Kannada and farmer organizations have called for a “Karnataka Bandh,” and the municipal government of Bengaluru has decided to call a day off for all educational institutions on Friday in response.
This holiday has been declared in protest against the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu, ANI reported.
In the best interests of the kids, a holiday has been proclaimed for all schools and institutions in Bengaluru city due to the declaration of the Karnataka bandh by various organizations, according to KA Dayananda, the district deputy commissioner for Bengaluru City.
Additionally, in the Mandya district, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have been put in place, forcing tomorrow’s closure of all institutions and colleges.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision to refrain from interfering with the decisions of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and its subsidiary body, the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC), protests have broken out in Karnataka over the supply of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu.
With effect from September 28 to October 15, 2023, the CWRC has issued an order directing Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of Cauvery water from Biligundlu, down from the previous release of 5,000 cusecs.
Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Swabhimani Sene stopped an event where actor Siddharth was promoting his new movie “Chikku” in Bengaluru and requested that he leave the location. They expressed their displeasure and claimed that, considering Tamil Nadu’s ongoing demand for Cauvery River water from Karnataka, it was inappropriate for Siddharth to be engaging in such promotional efforts.
Additionally, on Thursday, a group of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) activists staged a sizable demonstration in Bengaluru against the state’s lawmakers and the Siddaramaiah administration over the Cauvery River water issue.
The KRV activists yelled “Cauvery Is Ours” in opposition to the river’s water being released to Tamil Nadu.
According to ANI, Ashwini Gowda, the president of the KRV Women’s Wing, declared that now is the moment for all Kannadigas to unite and urged that the state-elected MPs speak out on the
issue and stand up for the people of Karnataka, or resign from their positions.

“The issue has been raised for 150 years, and I think this is the right time for all Kannadigas to come and have a better conclusion,” she said in a statement.
The KRV activist also called on the Prime Minister to become involved in the situation.
“The Karnataka MPs don’t want to bring up this subject, and they don’t want to discuss it. We want them to speak about the Cauvery issue or to quit, but not a single MP is doing so, she said.
