Kannauj criminal’s wife-son open fire at police, constable killed in encounter

After being shot in the thigh constable was taken to Kanpur for medical attention but he succumbed to his injuries that night.

On Tuesday, as per officials,  in Kannauj family members of an accused criminal opened fire at the police team sent to apprehend him, killing one constable in the encounter.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar Anand stated that police constable Sachin Rathi (28), who was shot during the incident in the Vishungarh police station area, was taken to Kanpur for medical attention where he passed away.

According to the police, the accused criminal Ashok Kumar, also known as Munna Yadav, and his son were shot in retaliation. They were taken to a Kannauj hospital.

The SP said Kumar was a history-sheeter with 20 cases registered against him and there was a non-bailable warrant against him, according to PTI.

Anand told reporters that after receiving information on Monday that Kumar was at his residence, a joint police team from the Vishungarh police station and Chhibramau police station besieged the home.

The accused, his wife and their son opened fire on the police as soon as they arrived at the location in Dharni Dheerpur Nagariya village, according to the SP.

After being shot in the thigh he was taken to Kanpur for medical attention but Constable Rathi passed away late that night, according to him.

He also mentioned that has the history-sheeter and his son were admitted in Tirva Medical College in Kannauj. According to Anand, the two pistols with Kumar and his son fired were recovered. A double-barrel rifle was also found inside the house during search, according to the police.
