In a closely contested by-election in Madhya Pradesh’s Amarwara, the ruling BJP emerged victorious winning by a margin of 3,552 votes.
The result was announced on Saturday, with BJP candidate Kamalesh Shah securing 83,036 votes, surpassing Congress candidate Dheeran Shah Invati’s 79,784 votes.

Initially, Invati led the race until the 17th round of counting, but Shah overtook him in the subsequent three rounds, clinching the win. The Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) finished third with 28,638 votes.
A total of nine candidates contested the election, including three independents. This marks Kamalesh Shah’s fourth consecutive win from the Amarwara Assembly seat in Chhindwara district, having previously won in 2013, 2018, and 2023 as a Congress candidate. Shah defected from Congress to BJP earlier this year, necessitating the by-election.
The bypoll saw a high voter turnout of 78.71% on July 10. Historically, the Amarwara seat has been represented by Congress nine times, while the GGP won in 2003, and the BJP emerged victorious in 1972, 1990, and 2008.
