Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have witnessed wide-ranging transformation since the abrogation of Article 370 seven years ago. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to accelerating development and expanding opportunities for the people of both Union Territories.
Marking the seventh anniversary, the Prime Minister said the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, opened a new chapter in the region’s development.
The Centre revoked the special constitutional status of the erstwhile state through a Presidential Order. It simultaneously reorganised the region into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
PM Modi said infrastructure has expanded significantly over the past seven years. He added that education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and sports have recorded substantial growth.
PM Narendra Modi also said women and marginalised communities have gained full constitutional rights that were denied to them for decades.
The Prime Minister said this year’s anniversary carries greater significance.
India will commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
PM Modi said Dr Mookerjee’s lifelong commitment to national unity continues to inspire generations. He added that the vision he championed found historic fulfilment on August 5, 2019.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He said every citizen should have the opportunity to dream big, succeed and contribute to building a Viksit Bharat.
Article 370 became part of the Constitution in 1950 and remained one of India’s most debated constitutional provisions before it was rendered inoperative on August 5, 2019.
PM Modi said infrastructure, education, healthcare and entrepreneurship have expanded significantly since August 5, 2019. He said constitutional empowerment has also strengthened, reaffirming the government’s commitment to Viksit Bharat.
Seven years ago, on this day, Articles 370 and 35(A) became history, marking a decisive new chapter in the journey of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh.
