The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) expressed concern on Tuesday regarding the visit of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials to the official residence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Delhi on Monday. JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the ED’s presence at the chief minister’s residence and highlighted the timing of the visit.
Bhattacharya questioned the need for ED officials to visit the Delhi residence when Chief Minister Hemant Soren had willingly offered to record his statement on January 31. He further remarked on the agency’s claim of recovering Rs 36 lakh during the search, suggesting a possible premeditated plan by the Enforcement Directorate and Babulal Marandi, the Jharkhand BJP president and former chief minister.

“Wasn’t that planned by ED and Babulal (Marandi) Ji? They are treating him like a criminal, but I would like to state that our CM is not afraid of anyone,” asserted Bhattacharya.
Babulal Marandi, the Jharkhand BJP president, has been a prominent figure in the state’s political landscape. The ED’s search at his Delhi residence, related to a money laundering case probe connected to an alleged land scam, yielded Rs 36 lakh in cash, a BMW SUV, and purportedly incriminating documents, as reported by official sources in the national capital.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who also serves as the executive president of the JMM, has been vocal about not fearing any allegations or investigations. The ED’s actions have triggered speculation and political debate, with the opposition raising concerns about how the search was conducted.

The ED’s involvement in the investigation adds complexity to the already tense political climate in Jharkhand, with the ruling party questioning the motives behind the raid. As the issue unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Enforcement Directorate and political leaders navigate the legal and political dimensions of this developing situation.
