Jerusalem Post Hails PM Modi’s Israel Visit As New Chapter In Bilateral Ties

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his two-day visit to Israel, leading Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post marked the occasion with a prominent front-page headline welcoming him and describing the moment as the opening of a new chapter between two ancient nations.

The newspaper carried a large photograph of PM Modi and highlighted the expanding partnership between India and Jerusalem, portraying the visit as a defining point in bilateral ties.

It noted that while Israel has long regarded India as an important friend, the time has come to elevate New Delhi to a top-tier strategic priority, citing trust, history and strong political chemistry as the foundation of the relationship.

According to India’s Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu will review progress in the strategic partnership and chart next steps across defence and security, science and technology, innovation, agriculture, water management, trade, economy and people-to-people exchanges.

PM Modi will also likely meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog, underlining the high-level political engagement that defines the partnership.

Visit Builds on Landmark 2017 Breakthrough

The visit follows PM Modi’s landmark 2017 trip, when he became the first Indian Prime Minister to travel to Israel, breaking decades of diplomatic hesitation. His arrival at Ben-Gurion Airport at the time was widely viewed as a breakthrough in bilateral relations.

The Jerusalem Post framed the current visit as more than ceremonial, describing it as taking place amid significant geopolitical changes and signalling that the relationship has matured into a stable pillar of both countries’ foreign policies.

India’s Ambassador to Israel, JP Singh, told the newspaper that the visit comes after nearly nine years at the highest level and carries symbolic and practical importance. He characterised it as historic and indicative of a new phase in ties.

In his departure statement, Prime Minister Modi said he looks forward to discussions with Netanyahu on cooperation across domains and on regional and global issues. He will also address the Knesset and interact with the Indian diaspora.

Additionally, former Israeli Prime Minister and current leader of the opposition, Yair Lapid, took X to welcome PM Modi.

Taking to X, Yair Lapid posted, “All of Israel is excited to welcome Prime Minister Modi tomorrow. He is a true friend of Israel. The relationship between Israel and India is not merely a strategic one, but a bond of deep friendship between nations.”
