Jantar Mantar Case: 2 CJP Leaders Get 5-Day Judicial Custody, Third Secures Bail

CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka received five-day judicial custody in the Jantar Mantar trespassing case, while Ajinkya Shinde secured bail on a personal bond, Ratna Singh said.

Police detained the three leaders on Tuesday for allegedly crossing barricades and entering Jantar Mantar, which Delhi Police recently removed from its list of designated protest venues.

Authorities booked them for trespassing, violating bond conditions and obstructing a public official.

The CJP leaders sought to protest against alleged irregularities in the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. They reportedly raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Ratna Singh announced the court’s decision on X, saying Das and Ranka would remain in custody for five days, while Shinde was released on a personal bond. She further alleged that authorities prevented the leaders from meeting their lawyers until late Tuesday night.

On October 10, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, Das and Ranka secured release after furnishing a ₹50,000 bond and agreeing to avoid breach-of-peace cases for one year.

Police have now booked Das and Ranka for allegedly violating these conditions.

The latest action follows Delhi Police’s decision on October 12 to de-notify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site under revised guidelines issued through Standing Order Number L&O/48/2026.

According to the police, the Ministry of Home Affairs formed a committee to identify alternative venues where citizens could organise protests and demonstrations.

Based on its recommendations, authorities designated three locations for protests: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in east Delhi.

Delhi Police said it would issue revised standard operating procedures for organising demonstrations at the three venues separately.
