A significant influx of devotees at the ISKCON temple in Patna on Monday evening led to a stampede-like situation during the Janmashtami festival, according to local authorities. However, no serious casualties were reported.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajeev Mishra confirmed that while a few devotees sustained minor injuries, the situation was quickly managed by the police. “A large number of devotees gathered at the ISKCON temple for the Janmashtami celebrations,” Mishra said. “We had adequate security personnel on site, but additional staff were deployed as the crowd’s movement became chaotic. The situation was brought under control promptly and was not a full-blown stampede.”

Videos circulating on social media showed security forces working to manage the crowd as some individuals fell and were assisted by the personnel.
Mishra further noted, “The situation is now completely under control. We have prioritized managing the crowd effectively, and women security personnel have been deployed in significant numbers.”
The Patna district administration also addressed the incident, stating, “There was no stampede at the ISKCON temple. Minor force was used to manage those attempting to breach police barricades. The situation is under control.”
Earlier this month, a stampede at the Baba Siddheshwar Nath Temple in Bihar’s Jehanabad district resulted in seven fatalities and 16 injuries, highlighting the need for vigilant crowd management during large-scale events.
