Jamia Hamdard’s Institute of International Studies proudly unveils its latest initiative; a groundbreaking flagship undergraduate program. Designed to cultivate a nuanced comprehension of global politics and world affairs, this program represents a pivotal step forward.
Scheduled to launch in the academic year 2024-25, this initiative marks a notable expansion for the institute. It builds upon the achievements of its esteemed M.A. program in International Studies. The program highlights the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and global engagement.
The program is to cater to the growing interest in international relations, geopolitics, and international political economy among Indian students.
The four-year undergraduate program spans eight semesters and offers students multiple exit-entry options at the end of each year.
This framework facilitates students in achieving a UG Certificate, UG Diploma, and UG Degree. The National Education Policy of 2020 stipulates that students must meet the minimum credit requirements.
For those students interested in furthering their studies, they have the opportunity to extend their education for a fourth year. This additional year allows them to attain an honors degree in the field of international studies, with or without research.
Students will gain insights into various facets of international relations. These include international peace and political economy, defense and security, maritime and Himalayan geopolitics, cyberspace security, global health, and more.
One distinguishing feature of the program is its emphasis on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches. This approach is in line with the vision outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
Practical insights on international relations and diplomacy will be provided by eminent diplomats as Professors of Practice.
Optional subjects encompass courses exploring the intricate relationship between religion, culture, and world politics. Students have the opportunity to study foreign languages and delve into social science statistics.
Commenting on the launch of the program, a spokesperson for Jamia Hamdard highlighted its unique focus on non-Western perspectives and civilizations in shaping global order.
By incorporating India’s civilizational legacy and examining international relations through a historical-civilizational lens, the program aims to offer a broader conceptualization of global order beyond conventional state-centric interpretations.
Employment prospects for graduates of the program are promising, with opportunities in think tanks, journalism, policymaking, research, bureaucracy, embassies & consulates, international organizations/bodies, and corporate setups requiring geopolitical analysis.
