Jamia Hamdard University has launched a large-scale cleanliness initiative to transform its campus into a model of environmental awareness and civic responsibility.
The campaign, held under the guidance of Registrar Col Tahir Mustafa, drew active participation from Prof Sohrab, Prof Javed, faculty members, students, and NSS volunteers.
The campaign forms a key part of Jamia Hamdard’s ‘Mission Green Campus’, which seeks to promote a clean, smoke-free, and plastic-free environment. It aims to inspire the university community to adopt sustainable lifestyles and view cleanliness as a collective duty rather than an occasional act.
Col Tahir Mustafa, addressing the participants, underlined that maintaining hygiene and a clean environment reflects a person’s responsibility towards society. He noted that Hamdard’s philosophy has always revolved around health and well-being, echoing the vision of its founder.
“We should not wait for others or government agencies to clean our surroundings. It is our responsibility to keep our environment clean every day,” he said.
The cleanliness drive saw widespread enthusiasm, with participants cleaning campus areas, collecting waste, and planting saplings.
NSS volunteers and students also pledged to minimise plastic usage and embrace eco-friendly alternatives in their daily lives.
Faculty members joined hands with the students to raise awareness about environmental protection and healthy living. The initiative served as a reminder that small, consistent efforts can lead to meaningful change.
Jamia Hamdard’s efforts reflect its ongoing commitment to creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable campus.
The initiative also seeks to inspire citizens beyond the university, urging communities across Delhi and the nation to take ownership of their surroundings and contribute to a cleaner India.
By integrating social responsibility into education, Jamia Hamdard continues to demonstrate that progress begins with individual action and collective resolve.
