Lucknow witnessed an unprecedented cultural celebration on Saturday as more than 35,000 young people gathered in Sarojninagar for a high-energy live concert by Yo Yo Honey Singh.
Organised under the ‘Yuva Utsav @ Sarojninagar’ initiative, the event was led by local MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh, who envisioned the programme as a major step towards positioning Lucknow as India’s next ‘Lifestyle Capital’. Entry to the concert was entirely free and pass-based, marking a rare large-scale cultural event accessible to all.
The festival registered participation from over 100 schools and colleges, more than 100 RWAs, and an equally large number of market and community associations. It has already been hailed as one of the most inclusive public events ever hosted in Sarojninagar, showcasing strong community engagement.
Addressing the crowd, Dr Rajeshwar Singh said he could ‘see 35,000 smiling faces and hear 35,000 beating hearts’, emphasising that energy, spirit and aspiration unite the youth.
He added that music, whether devotional, rap or trance, has the power to connect people, and said Lucknow is rapidly transforming into a global city.
Dr Singh thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for enabling the event, noting the state government’s support in creating opportunities for young people.
He also expressed gratitude to senior officials, including the Chief Secretary, DGP, Police Commissioner and DM Lucknow, along with thousands of police personnel and volunteers who ensured a smooth and secure experience.
Honey Singh, who delivered a powerful performance, praised Dr Rajeshwar Singh as a ‘true leader’ rather than merely a politician.
The singer spoke candidly about his own struggles with substance abuse and urged young people to reject drugs, saying they had destroyed several years of his life. He also affirmed his partnership with Dr Singh in campaigns against drug misuse.
Organisers designated the entire venue as a no-seating zone, and the audience stood for nearly three hours to enjoy the international-standard production. Security arrangements included 150 AI-enabled cameras, DFMD scanners, trained private guards from Delhi, and extensive police deployment, ensuring the event concluded safely and without disruption.
