During his visit, Colby emphasised that the United States views India with deep respect and recognises its growing influence in shaping the future of the Indo-Pacific region and the wider international order.
Speaking at a session organised by the Ananta Centre, he said both countries share a commitment to ensuring that the future of Asia is determined by sovereign nations capable of pursuing their own strategic interests.
Colby described India as an essential partner in maintaining a stable balance of power in Asia. He cited India’s strategic position in the Indian Ocean, along with its expanding economic strength and capable military forces, as key factors underpinning its importance.
Colby also acknowledged India’s independent foreign policy approach, often described as ‘Bharat First’ and the ‘India Way’, noting that it reflects a pragmatic and interest-driven outlook on global affairs.
The visit aims to further strengthen the India–US strategic partnership, with discussions focusing on defence cooperation and shared geopolitical priorities.
Officials said the engagement builds on commitments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, as both nations deepen collaboration amid shifting global dynamics.
