The seat-sharing mechanism remained undetermined even at the final meeting of the India Alliance of Opposition parties for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Nevertheless, during this discussion, it was revealed that the seat-sharing arrangement will be chosen by the first week of January. Senior Congressman Jairam Ramesh has made a significant announcement about seat sharing inside the India alliance in the interim.
Jairam Ramesh has clarified Congress’s position on seat sharing. “There will be talks on seat sharing,” he stated in an interview with news agency ANI. We will do whatever has to be done. Considering that many states have varied conditions, there has been discussion on seat sharing.

“We will proceed with an open mind and a closed mouth”
The leader of the Congress stated that we will only proceed with the seat-sharing talks with an open mind and a closed tongue. It is significant that following the December 28 Nagpur event, the five-member National Alliance Committee of Congress will meet with party state units. State unit chiefs have been summoned to Delhi to deliberate on the best course of action for the alliance starting on December 29.

A committee of the National Alliance established to address seat-sharing
A five-member National Alliance Committee was established by Congress following the fourth India Alliance meeting to discuss seat-sharing with the participating parties. Before allocating seats, this committee has resolved to confer with prominent figures from several state legislatures. The committee will undertake final discussions on seat sharing with allies in the first week of January, following discussions with senior state leaders.

Who makes up the committee?
With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approaching, the Congress on December 19th established a five-person committee. Mohan Prakash will serve as the committee’s chairman. The committee now includes former Union Ministers Salman Khurshid and Mukul Wasnik in addition to two former Chief Ministers, Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel.
