In Uttar Pradesh, Rameshwar Singh, an IRS officer from the 1988 batch, took charge today as Member (Administrative) of the Uttar Pradesh RERA Appellate Tribunal for a five-year term.
Rameshwar Singh recently retired from the esteemed position of Principal Director General of the Income Tax Department in Delhi. He is well-regarded within the department for his simplicity and humility. His appointment as Administrative Member in the Uttar Pradesh RERA Appellate Tribunal on Thursday has generated considerable discussion.

Uttar Pradesh RERA Appellate Tribunal
The full form of RERA is ‘Real Estate Regulatory Act’. Introduced in 2016 and implemented in most states by 2017, RERA was a crucial initiative to regulate the previously unorganized real estate sector in India. The RERA Act serves to protect the rights of home buyers from fraudulent builders and deceptive claims. Almost all states in India, except a few, have established State Real Estate Regulatory Authorities (RERAs) to regulate their real estate sectors. Examples include UP RERA, RERA Gujarat, RERA Karnataka, RERA Rajasthan, and RERA Maharashtra.
