IndiGo Processes ₹610 Crore In Refunds After Govt Deadline; Flight Operations Near Normal

IndiGo has refunded Rs 610 crore to passengers affected by cancelled or heavily delayed flights, meeting the Civil Aviation Ministry’s deadline to clear all pending refunds by 8 PM on Sunday.

IndiGo has refunded ₹610 crore to passengers affected by cancelled or heavily delayed flights, meeting the strict deadline set by the Ministry of Civil Aviation for completing all pending refunds by 8 PM on Sunday.

According to an official statement, airlines are barred from charging additional fees for rescheduling travel disrupted by cancellations.

The ministry said dedicated support cells have been put in place to assist affected travellers. They are intended to ensure that refund and rebooking requests are handled without delays.

Government officials noted a steady recovery in IndiGo’s operations over the weekend.

The airline’s daily flights rose from 706 on Friday to 1,565 on Saturday and were expected to reach around 1,650 by Sunday night. Other domestic carriers continued to operate without disruption and at full capacity.

In response to a sudden spike in airfares caused by widespread cancellations and demand shifts, the government also imposed an emergency cap on ticket prices.

The ministry said the intervention helped stabilise fares on affected sectors, bringing them back to reasonable levels. All airlines have been instructed to adhere to the revised fare framework.

IndiGo was further directed to reunite passengers with baggage misplaced during the disruption within 48 hours while maintaining continuous communication.

As of Saturday, the airline had delivered 3,000 pieces of baggage across the country.

Airport authorities in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Goa reported smooth operations on Sunday. There was no congestion at check-in counters, security lanes or boarding gates.

CISF and airport operators strengthened ground support to ensure seamless movement of passengers.

Continuous Monitoring by MoCA

The ministry said the MoCA’s 24×7 control room continues to oversee flight operations, airport conditions and passenger-related concerns.

“Passenger calls are being promptly attended to, with necessary assistance as required,” the statement added.

Officials emphasised that decisive steps taken over the past few days have helped stabilise the aviation network following IndiGo’s operational crisis.

The ministry said air travel across the country is rapidly returning to normal. It added that corrective measures will remain in place until full stability is restored.

It added that monitoring will continue to ensure passenger rights are protected and that further updates will be issued as needed.
