Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) saw continued disruptions for the eighth straight day as IndiGo cancelled 58 flights on Tuesday.
The cancellations included 14 arrivals and 44 departures on major domestic routes such as Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Cochin, Visakhapatnam, Varanasi, Patna, Srinagar, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Chennai and Jodhpur.
This marks the first time since 4 December that the number of daily cancellations has fallen below 100, indicating gradual stabilisation.
On Monday, the airline had cancelled 112 flights, with the daily figure steadily decreasing since 6 December.
Despite the reduction in cancellations, passengers continued to face significant inconvenience.
Since 2 December, over 600 IndiGo flights have been cancelled at Hyderabad alone.
On Tuesday, the disruptions extended beyond Telangana, with IndiGo cancelling six flights at Visakhapatnam airport.
Authorities have stepped in to assist passengers stranded due to the ongoing operational challenges.
SpiceJet has deployed additional flights to manage the increased rush of travellers.
Special Transport Arrangements
To ease congestion and support stranded passengers, both the South Central Railway (SCR) and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) have introduced special transport services.
The SCR is operating special trains to key destinations including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Howrah, offering relief to long-distance travellers.
Meanwhile, the TGSRTC has launched special bus services to Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam, providing alternative travel options.
In a statement issued on Monday, IndiGo reported operating over 1,800 flights, up from 1,650 flights on Sunday, signalling a progressive return to normalcy.
The airline also announced that it has fully restored network coverage.
Operational efficiency has also seen an improvement, with on-time performance (OTP) rising to 90 per cent on Monday, compared to 75 per cent the previous day.
Refunds and Passenger Support
IndiGo has already refunded ₹827 crore for cancelled flights, and it is currently processing the remaining refunds for cancellations up to 15 December.
The airline has also undertaken extensive measures to assist affected customers, arranging over 9,500 hotel rooms and nearly 10,000 cabs and buses between 1 and 7 December.
Additionally, more than 4,500 missing bags have been returned to passengers, with the remainder expected to be delivered within the next 36 hours.
