Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the commitment shown by India’s younger generation towards eliminating drug abuse had strengthened his belief that the country’s youth is ‘aware, socially conscious and serious about their duties’. He made the remarks while launching the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’ through video conferencing.
The nationwide campaign has been launched as a Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) movement led by MY Bharat youth volunteers. It aims to unite young people in the fight against substance abuse while advancing the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat and contributing to the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Addressing the programme, the Prime Minister described the campaign as a national mission benefiting individuals, families and society. He stressed that a developed India requires mentally and physically healthy youth and urged young people to stay away from drugs while spreading awareness within their communities.
Recalling the initiative’s pilot launch in Varanasi (Kashi) last year, PM Modi said the campaign combines scientific awareness with India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
PM Modi said 125 spiritual organisations have joined the movement to implement the Kashi Declaration, a five-year roadmap for a drug-free India.
Calling the youth India’s ‘Amrit Peedhi’, Prime Minister Modi said they would lead the country towards Viksit Bharat and urged them to stay away from drugs and use their talent for nation-building.
The campaign will organise sports events, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programmes and awareness drives every Sunday. It supports the vision of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’, with the message that ‘drug-free youth are the greatest strength of Viksit Bharat.’
