Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted India’s vibrant startup ecosystem, which is fostering creativity and entrepreneurship in an inclusive manner.
Responding to a post by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister remarked: “Today’s India believes in aspiration & creation, they are creating what they once used to seek!”

The Prime Minister’s remarks mark the 10th anniversary of the Startup India initiative, which has evolved into one of the world’s largest startup ecosystems.
According to Minister Goyal, over 2 lakh government-recognised startups now operate across the country, generating more than 21 lakh jobs.
Authorities recognised more than 49,000 startups in 2025, marking the highest annual growth since the initiative’s inception.
Inclusion has been a defining feature of this journey.
Over 45 per cent of recognised startups have at least one woman director, while nearly half are based in non-metro cities, demonstrating the increasing role of Tier 2 and 3 cities in driving innovation and economic growth.
India’s focus on innovation and deep technology has strengthened considerably. The nation’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index has improved from 81 in 2015 to 38 last year.
Government support for deep tech ventures is expected to further enhance India’s global standing in innovation.
Prime Minister Modi’s remarks underscore the transformative potential of India’s startup ecosystem in creating a Viksit Bharat, empowering creators, and accelerating inclusive economic growth.
