India’s Commitment To Global Welfare And Social Harmony Highlighted At The 5th Himalayan Indian Ocean Region Nations International Conference

The 5th International Conference of the Himalayan Indian Ocean Region Nations (HHRS) was officially inaugurated today, bringing together scholars, diplomats, and key figures to discuss the cultural, economic, and political ties between India and Southeast Asia. The event, organized by the National Security Awakening Forum, Hansraj College (University of Delhi), Himalayan Studies, and the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (Jamia Millia Islamia), marked a significant milestone in strengthening the bonds between these regions.

During the opening session, Dr. Indresh Kumar, National Executive Member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Chief Patron of the National Security Awakening Forum, delivered a powerful address on India’s cultural and societal values.

Dr. Kumar emphasized that character, rather than knowledge or science, is the cornerstone of Indian culture. He stated that true societal transformation begins with self-improvement and that India, guided by values such as righteousness and non-violence, continues to lead the world as a “Vishwaguru” (world leader).

A Strong Global Voice: Shri Tokhan Sahu’s Address

The conference saw Shri Tokhan Sahu, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Sahu acknowledged the pivotal role India is playing on the global stage under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Prof. Asif’s words resonated deeply with the attendees, emphasizing India’s cultural openness and its role in uniting various traditions for centuries.

Reflections On National Service And Global Healthcare Contributions

Lieutenant General (Retd) R.N. Singh delivered a call to action, urging citizens to serve their nation with unwavering commitment. He expressed concern over the increasing trend of people settling abroad, pointing out that India’s unique warmth, cultural richness, and heritage are unparalleled.

Senior journalist Harshvardhan Tripathi also highlighted India’s contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing the global recognition of India’s traditional medicines and healing practices, which have positively impacted global healthcare systems.

Shri Vikramaditya Singh, National Co-Organizing Secretary of the National Security Awakening Forum, provided an overview of the Forum’s mission, stressing the importance of nationalism and security in building a self-reliant India.

Dr. Ritesh Kumar Rai, Co-Convener of the event, elaborated on the HHRS initiative’s aim to revive and fortify historical and cultural ties between India and Southeast Asia.

The conference kicked off with two technical sessions. Dr. Rajiv Nayan chaired the first session on “Historical Linkages Between India and Southeast Asia,” which featured presentations by prominent scholars such as Dr. Rajiv Ranjan and Dr. Dhrubjyoti Bhattacharjee.

Prof. Chandrachud Singh chaired the second session on “Cultural Connectivity Between India and Southeast Asia,” with key presentations by Dr. Rakesh Kumar and Dr. Prachi Agarwal.

Scholars from India and the Southeast Asian region, including representatives from Indonesia, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and beyond, presented a total of 32 research papers.

Celebrating Shared Cultural Heritage

As the first day of the conference drew to a close, attendees enjoyed a vibrant cultural performance that highlighted the shared artistic traditions of India and Southeast Asia. The performance beautifully illustrated the intertwined cultural legacies of the two regions.

The conference further saw the participation of several eminent personalities, including Golok Bihari Rai, Virendra Kumar Chaudhary, Arun Kumar, and many other intellectuals, academicians, journalists, and researchers. Their collective presence underscored the importance of fostering international collaboration and cultural exchange.

The 5th HHRS conference not only reaffirmed India’s commitment to global welfare and unity but also provided a platform for meaningful dialogues that continue to bridge the gap between India and Southeast Asia.
