Indian runners have earned international recognition after completing two of the world’s most demanding ultra-running events: the London to Brighton 100K in the UK and the Swiss Canyon Trail (SCT) in Switzerland.
Among the standout performers was Anurag Sharma from Prayagraj, who led the team and carried the Indian tricolour across the finish line with pride.
The athletes participated under the banners of Fuel Up with Anurag (FUWA) and Crossings Runners Club (CRC).
Their participation reflected not only personal commitment but also the rising profile of Indian endurance athletes on the global stage.
Held in the United Kingdom, the London to Brighton 100K ultra-marathon challenged participants with a route transitioning from city streets to rural countryside, ending at the Brighton seafront.
Indian finishers included:
The four runners crossed the finish line with the Indian flag aloft, showcasing their discipline and mental strength. Their success also marked a significant milestone for the Crossings Runners Club, which continues to promote competitive distance running among Indians globally.
In Switzerland, runners faced even harsher conditions during the 30th Swiss Canyon Trail, a race known for its steep mountain terrain and unpredictable weather.
Rain transformed the route into a muddy, treacherous challenge.
Anurag Sharma completed the 114-kilometre trail with a staggering elevation gain of 5,000 meters, finishing after nearly 24 hours.
He became the only Indian resident to achieve this feat to date.
Joining him was Lhamu Gensapa, an American Express employee, who finished the 51-kilometre race despite rain-soaked paths and a vertical climb of 2,200 meters.
“It feels surreal—like a dream I never thought would come true,” Lhamu said after completing the course.
All participants managed to balance rigorous training with full-time jobs and family responsibilities.
They often trained in the early morning or late at night, investing months of effort into preparing for these ultras.
The runners self-funded their participation, covering travel and race expenses without sponsorships.
Their dedication speaks to the deep personal commitment behind each stride.
These accomplishments go beyond athletic milestones. The runners’ performances signal India’s growing presence in global endurance sports.
Through the efforts of FUWA and CRC, Indian athletes are pushing boundaries and inspiring others to follow suit.
By finishing two of the world’s most challenging ultra-events, these runners didn’t just carry hydration packs—they carried the hopes and colours of a nation.
Their journeys are inspiring a new generation of Indian athletes to dream big and train hard.
