Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Saturday to oversee relief and repatriation efforts following the Tanahun District bus tragedy. The accident claimed the lives of 27 Indians and injured 16 others.
Khadse met Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava and Nepal’s Joint Secretary B. Dhungana at Tribhuvan International Airport to discuss rescue operations. The 16 injured passengers were airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, where Khadse visited them and shared updates on social media.
The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu remains in constant contact with local authorities and hospital staff. They are coordinating the repatriation of the deceased and treatment of the injured. The embassy has also issued 24/7 emergency relief numbers.
The bus, carrying mostly Indian tourists from Maharashtra, plunged 150 feet into the Marsyangdi River valley in the Ambukhereni area while traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu. This marks the second major tragedy involving residents of Jalgaon, Maharashtra, in a foreign country within three months.
