Over 80 universities and research institutions from Germany are visiting India this month, marking a major move to boost academic collaboration between the two countries, according to an official release by DAAD.
The visiting delegation will likely engage in a series of high-profile events, including collaborations with Indian universities, the launch of the German School of Technology at PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore, the Indo-German Forum on Research and Innovation, and the APAIE 2025 Conference in New Delhi.
The visit also coincides with DAAD’s 65th anniversary in India.
German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann is participating in the celebrations.
Ackermann noted, “The Indo-German partnership in science and education is stronger than ever. It is one of the building blocks of our bilateral ties. We have almost 50,000 Indian students in Germany, the largest group of foreign students from any country. Indian scientists are contributing to our research landscape, with their talents, their ambitions, and their discoveries. It is a pleasure to see this exchange grow so dynamically, from year to year.”
The visit commenced with a Higher Education Policy Information programme from 16 to 22 March.
Twenty academic leaders from German institutions held discussions in Hyderabad and New Delhi focused on strengthening institutional partnerships and launching new academic initiatives.
A key highlight was the opening of the German School of Technology in Coimbatore.
Backed by DAAD and supported by German Universities of Applied Sciences, the initiative aims to boost skills and innovation in engineering and technology through industry-aligned education.
The Indo-German Forum: Research, Innovation, and Transfer will see 250 participants from both countries’ academic and research institutions come together.
Hosted by DWIH New Delhi and DAAD Regional Office, the event is part of DAAD’s centennial celebrations and aims to encourage deeper collaboration in research and education.
DAAD Reinforces Commitment To Collaboration
Katja Lasch, Director of the DAAD Regional Office in New Delhi stated, “As we mark the centennial of DAAD and the 65 years of DAAD presence in India, we are building upon a robust partnership forged over many decades. The participation of over 80 German higher education institutions in India this March shows a growing interest in deepening our academic relations. These events demonstrate our commitment to continue to enhance the academic and research exchange, including partnerships in higher education, research and innovation between India and Germany.”
The delegation will also attend the APAIE 2025 conference from 25 to 27 March, where over 70 German universities will be represented at the German pavilion.
The event will likely foster further academic linkages between Germany, India, and other global institutions.
