India-US Trade Deal First Tranche Could Be Signed By July, Says Piyush Goyal

India could sign the first tranche of its proposed bilateral trade agreement with the United States as early as July, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday, indicating that negotiations are approaching a crucial stage.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event, Piyush Goyal said discussions between the two countries have progressed significantly despite recent tariff-related concerns, raising expectations of an early breakthrough in the long-running trade talks.

The proposed agreement will likely boost bilateral trade and create greater market access opportunities for businesses in both countries, particularly benefiting Indian exporters in key sectors.

According to the Minister, officials from India and the United States have made considerable progress in recent weeks and are working to resolve the remaining issues before finalising the pact.

Piyush Goyal’s remarks come days after he highlighted the pace of engagement between the two sides.

On June 5, the Minister said a full team of US trade officials had visited New Delhi and held extensive discussions with their Indian counterparts to advance negotiations.

Piyush Goyal said both countries are working to bridge outstanding differences and reach a mutually beneficial agreement. He had earlier expressed confidence that the first phase of the trade pact could be concluded by mid-July, describing it as a ‘very vibrant first tranche’ that would serve as a foundation for deeper economic cooperation.

The proposed deal marks an important step in strengthening India-US economic ties as both countries seek to diversify supply chains, attract investments and expand strategic partnerships across sectors.

If finalised, the initial tranche will likely pave the way for a broader trade framework between the two nations in the coming years.
