India Unveils IICT To Train Next-Gen Digital Creators At WAVES 2025

In a bold move to bolster the country’s creative and digital economy, the Government of India officially launched the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) during the ongoing WAVES 2025 summit in Mumbai.

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the institute, describing it as a ‘national milestone’ for India’s animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) ecosystem.

Global Collaborations For A National Centre Of Excellence

The IICT, established under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with FICCI and CII, aims to function as a National Centre of Excellence, on par with India’s IITs and IIMs.

Global technology leaders including NVIDIA, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Adobe, and Star India have joined hands with the government to contribute to course development, training, and innovation at the institute.

Cutting-Edge Infrastructure At The Heart Of Mumbai

Phase 1 of the IICT has commenced at the NFDC Building on Pedder Road in Mumbai.

The facility boasts cutting-edge infrastructure such as Animation Labs, Gaming Labs, Edit and Sound Suites, Virtual Production environments, Immersive Studios, smart classrooms, and a Preview Theatre.

These facilities will offer aspiring professionals hands-on experience with the latest digital tools and production technologies.

Expanding Horizons With A New Campus & Regional Centres

Minister Vaishnaw also announced that Phase 2 will involve the construction of a sprawling 10-acre campus at Film City, Goregaon.

This expansion will significantly increase the institute’s capacity and allow for a broader range of programmes.

Additionally, the government plans to establish regional centres across India, making creative education and resources accessible to a wider population.

Shaping India’s Creative Future

The IICT will not only offer training but also serve as a hub for incubation, research and development, innovation, and policy formulation.

It is poised to open doors for thousands of young creators, developers, and entrepreneurs, enhancing their prospects in a globally competitive digital media industry.

With this initiative, the Government of India underscores its strategic vision to project India as a global powerhouse in digital content creation and to strengthen its position in the international creative economy.

As India eyes leadership in the digital and immersive storytelling space, the launch of IICT signifies a powerful commitment to nurturing talent, driving innovation, and building a self-reliant creative sector.

The initiative sets the stage for India’s soft power to shine on the global stage through world-class training and collaboration.
