India Thanks Armenia For Assisting Evacuation Of Citizens From Iran

On Saturday, India conveyed its appreciation to Armenia for assisting in the evacuation of Indian citizens from Iran, as efforts continue to relocate nationals from the conflict-affected region in West Asia.

The latest movement saw Indian fishermen travel from Iran via Armenia as part of a broader effort to bring citizens back safely.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar thanked Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and the Armenian authorities for enabling the transit, noting their support in facilitating the journey back to India.

In recent days, a large number of Indian nationals have been moved out of Iran to Armenia, with the government maintaining coordination with countries in the region to secure safe exit routes.

India had also earlier recognised assistance from Azerbaijan in the evacuation process.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that 204 Indian citizens had crossed into Azerbaijan from Iran through land borders. He said some of them have already returned, while others are likely to reach India shortly.

Earlier, on March 16, India had similarly thanked Armenia for facilitating the evacuation of over 550 Indian nationals from Iran, highlighting continued cooperation during the crisis.

The ongoing operations underline India’s diplomatic engagement with multiple countries as it works to ensure the safe return of its citizens from the region.
