India successfully conducted a salvo launch of two Pralay missiles on Wednesday, reinforcing its strategic defence capabilities. The missiles were test-fired in quick succession from the same launcher off the Odisha coast as part of user evaluation trials.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the launches occurred at approximately 10:30 AM, executed by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).
Both missiles followed the intended trajectory flawlessly, achieving all flight objectives. Tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, verified the precision and performance of the missiles.
Senior DRDO scientists, Indian Air Force and Indian Army officers, and industry representatives, including Development-cum-Production Partners, witnessed the test firsthand.
The successful salvo validated the missile’s reliability and readiness for operational deployment.
Pralay is a surface-to-surface, short-range ballistic missile capable of striking targets from 150 km to 500 km. It can carry multiple warhead types and employs advanced solid-propellant technology with state-of-the-art guidance and navigation systems to ensure high precision.
The missile is fully indigenous and was developed by the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad. Other DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, and Armament Research and Development Establishment, collaborated on the project.
The High Energy Materials Research Laboratory contributed to the missile’s development.
The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, and Research & Development Establishment (Engineers) also played key roles.
The Integrated Test Range provided crucial testing and evaluation support for the project.
Development-cum-Production Partners Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited integrated the systems for the test, supported by other Indian industries.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, Indian Air Force, Indian Army, DPSUs, and industry partners for executing the successful test-launch in quick succession. He highlighted that the salvo demonstrated the missile’s reliability.
Singh said it marked a significant milestone in strengthening India’s tactical and strategic defence arsenal.
DRDO Chief Signals Imminent Induction
DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the teams involved, stating, “The successful flight-tests reflect our imminent readiness to induct the Pralay system into operational service with our defence forces.”
The salvo launch underscores India’s commitment to bolstering indigenous defence capabilities. It integrates cutting-edge missile technology and enhances readiness across multiple platforms.
It also signifies India’s ability to deploy precision-guided, short-range ballistic systems with rapid turnaround, ensuring strategic deterrence and operational effectiveness.
Through this test, India validates the Pralay missile’s operational performance. The successful launch demonstrates robust progress in self-reliant defence innovation.
It also reinforces the nation’s standing in modern warfare preparedness and indigenous strategic development.
