India Strengthens Security At Bangladesh Diplomatic Missions Amid Rising Protests

India has increased security around the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and its Deputy and Assistant High Commissions in the country. This comes after protests erupted over atrocities against the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala on Monday. The MEA emphasized that diplomatic missions should remain unharmed and announced measures to boost security at the missions.

Rising Protests Over Hindu Atrocities in Bangladesh

Several protests have been held in Tripura, calling for an end to the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. On Monday, hundreds of activists gathered outside the AHC office to submit a memorandum urging the Bangladeshi government to protect Hindus. The protestors also highlighted the contributions of Hindus during Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War and its post-independence growth.

The memorandum also appealed to the International Human Rights Commission, United Nations, and other nations to intervene and stop the atrocities. Leaders from Tripura, including Chief Minister Manik Saha and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury, have also urged the Bangladesh government to halt the violence.

Diplomatic and Healthcare Responses

In response to the unrest, a private hospital in Agartala stopped providing services to Bangladeshi patients, following a similar move in Kolkata. This decision reflects the heightened tension surrounding the situation.

The violence against Hindus in Bangladesh has escalated, especially since the formation of the interim government led by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus. India has condemned the attacks, which include arson, looting, and desecration of religious sites.
