India has continued its humanitarian outreach to Myanmar under Operation Brahma, dispatching 20 pre-fabricated office structures—totaling nearly 50 tonnes—to Naypyidaw on Tuesday.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed C-17 aircraft to transport the structures, which will serve as temporary offices for Myanmar’s government ministries following last month’s devastating earthquake.
India Leads Relief Efforts As First Responder
Following the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, India quickly stepped in as the first international responder.
According to a statement released Wednesday by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India has already provided over 750 metric tonnes of humanitarian relief supplies.
These supplies include essential medicines, food grains, ready-to-eat meals, tents, blankets, generators, water and sanitation kits, and other critical materials such as rapidly deployable medical shelters and drinking water units.
Prefabricated Structures And Medical Support Dispatched
On April 15, the IAF transported components of 20 pre-fabricated offices to Myanmar.
These structures, weighing approximately 50 tonnes, will help restore basic government operations in Naypyidaw.
The IAF also deployed two additional C-17 aircraft to bring home Indian military medical personnel from the 60 Para Field Hospital, which concluded its mission after treating 2,519 patients over the past two weeks.
As part of Operation Brahma, India earlier sent a robust contingent of aid workers and specialists.
This included an 80-member NDRF Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team and a 127-member Indian Army Field Hospital Team, who worked around the clock to provide emergency relief and medical care.
Extending Support Beyond Borders
India’s comprehensive aid to Myanmar under Operation Brahma not only highlights its commitment to regional stability but also showcases its readiness to provide swift and effective disaster relief.
The operation also extended assistance to the Indian diaspora residing in the Yangon region, ensuring their safety and well-being.
“The supply of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief material to Myanmar demonstrates India’s willingness to stand with the people of Myanmar and support them through this difficult time,” the MEA said in its statement.
With ongoing shipments and coordination efforts, Operation Brahma stands as a testament to India’s evolving role as a dependable neighbor and a regional humanitarian leader.
