Indian Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, reiterated India’s clear and uncompromising message to Pakistan following the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Speaking to the media in Moscow on Saturday, he said, “Our message was very simple and very clear—that India will respond to any escalation by Pakistan.”
He stressed that Pakistan initiated the conflict with a terror attack in Pahalgam, and India had no choice but to respond.
“Every action will have consequences,” he asserted.
The ambassador revealed that after the Indian Air Force launched retaliatory strikes on May 9 and 10 under ‘Operation Sindoor’, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) reached out to his Indian counterpart to request a ceasefire.
“On the night of May 9 or 10, Pakistan’s DGMO called the Indian DGMO and offered a ceasefire, which India accepted,” Kumar said.
“This clearly shows that the ceasefire was requested by Pakistan following our response.”
Speaking as part of the all-party delegation to Russia, AAP MP Ashok Kumar Mittal emphasised India’s commitment to peace, guided by the motto ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family).
“India is a peaceful country and our Prime Minister follows this motto strictly,” he said. “But if there’s a terrorist attack on us, we will respond decisively.”
Mittal expressed grief over the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
“They were targeted based on religion, in front of their families. This was an attempt by Pakistan to spread religious enmity and panic, but they failed,” he added.
Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai highlighted the longstanding and deep-rooted India-Russia relationship, especially in counter-terrorism.
“India-Russia cooperation is old and strong. Russia has expressed full solidarity with us, saying there will be no compromise on terrorism,” Rai said.
Rai also praised the operational effectiveness of India’s S-400 air defence system.
“We’ve successfully used S-400 to intercept multiple threats. Russia supports us fully in our fight against terrorism,” he noted.
Rai sharply criticised the Pakistan Army’s role in terrorism. “The real issue lies with the Pakistani army. The civilian government is a puppet. Awarding a field marshal title to a defeated army chief is a sign of dysfunction,” he remarked.
On May 7, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The strikes came in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen.
