India Post has rolled out a ₹5,800-crore Advanced Postal Technology (APT) project across the country, a move aimed at transforming the organisation into a world-class public logistics service, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Tuesday.
The new technology platform will enable India Post to deliver mobile-ready services, support real-time decision-making, and facilitate full digital transactions.
For the first time, post offices across India will accept UPI payments from customers of any bank, overcoming previous technical limitations where only India Post Payments Bank accounts could transact digitally.
Modernising Postal Infrastructure
The APT-based infrastructure equips India Post with modern technology layers comparable to private logistics firms, boosting operational efficiency and extending its e-commerce reach. Scindia highlighted that the platform is fully indigenous, developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India and Make in India.

The rollout promises multiple advantages, including automation that will cut operational costs, citizen-centric mobile services accessible anywhere and anytime, and strengthened support for e-commerce deliveries.
The platform also enables India Post to make real-time decisions, ensuring faster and more efficient service delivery. APT will enable India Post to compete with modern logistics companies while strengthening its role as a key component of India’s digital infrastructure.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader push to integrate technology into public services. It also aims to make these services more accessible and efficient for citizens nationwide.
