India Positioning Itself For Sustained Global Relevance And Growth, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that forward-looking trade agreements form a core pillar of India’s long-term economic strategy. He said India is positioning itself for sustained global relevance and growth.

The Prime Minister addressed the Rajya Sabha while replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address. He described the proposed European Union trade agreement as the ‘mother of all trade deals’.

He further underlined that India is deliberately pursuing partnerships that align with future economic realities.

PM Modi said the government is advancing under the reform, perform, transform framework. He said the approach focuses on policy reform, efficient execution, and structural transformation.

The Prime Minister said India has firmly boarded the ‘Reform Express’. In addition, he said the country is moving decisively beyond the ‘fragile five’ phase towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy.

Referring to global shifts, the Prime Minister observed that the international system is entering a new phase, comparable to the restructuring that followed the Second World War. He said the emerging global order increasingly looks towards India, which he described as a trusted friend to the world, or ‘Vishwa Bandhu’.

India recently announced a significant trade agreement with the United States and concluded another key deal with the European Union.

PM Modi said these partnerships reflect India’s rising economic influence and reinforce its credibility as a reliable global partner.

The PM pointed out that the first quarter of the 21st century has concluded, and described the second quarter as decisive for India’s future. He further drew a historical parallel and compared this phase to the crucial second stage of India’s freedom movement.

The PM said it will, however, play a defining role in achieving the goal of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.

The Prime Minister stressed that a strong and competitive manufacturing base increases India’s global appeal. He said countries prefer to engage economically with nations that demonstrate industrial strength and policy stability.

PM Modi also highlighted that India continues to record robust growth among major economies, while maintaining relatively low inflation. He said global institutions have acknowledged this balance as a sign of macroeconomic resilience.

Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister said the past few years marked a period of accelerated development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the current phase as an era of transformation across sectors and social groups. He said India is progressing rapidly in the right direction.
