In the wake of a short-lived ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Sunday morning.
The meeting, the third in 48 hours, came just hours after Pakistan violated the ceasefire it had agreed to observe.
The Prime Minister chaired the high-level discussion, which also included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
The focus remained on assessing recent developments along the India-Pakistan border and formulating a firm military and diplomatic response.
Tensions escalated on Saturday following the announcement of a ceasefire—reportedly brokered with the support of US President Donald Trump.
While both India and Pakistan initially agreed to halt military operations, Pakistan breached the agreement within hours by launching cross-border shelling and drone activity.
In response, Indian forces retaliated immediately and decisively.

Following India’s countermeasures, Pakistan ceased its attacks, including halting drone intrusions and missile launches.
Indian officials later confirmed drone sightings across sensitive regions such as Srinagar, Barmer (Rajasthan), and parts of Gujarat.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India’s unwavering stance against terrorism, stressing that the nation remains committed to opposing all forms of violent extremism.
He also emphasised that India would continue to act in defence of its citizens and sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Pakistan sought US intervention in brokering peace after India’s retaliatory action.
However, despite agreeing to a ceasefire once more, it again breached the commitment, prompting further Indian responses.
As of Sunday, officials reported no fresh incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) or International Border.
However, heightened alert remains in place, and several border areas experienced blackouts as a precautionary measure.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the press late Saturday night, stating that India had taken the ceasefire violations ‘very seriously’.
He confirmed that security forces had received strict instructions to respond firmly to any further breaches.
“We urge Pakistan to act responsibly and prevent further violations. Our armed forces are monitoring the situation closely and will take all necessary measures to protect national security,” Misri said.
Despite the hostilities, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif issued a statement asserting that his government remained committed to sincerely implementing the ceasefire agreement.
He described the ceasefire as a “new beginning” aimed at resolving regional issues and promoting peace, prosperity, and stability.
