External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the growing partnership between India and the Marshall Islands during a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at funding four key community development projects.
This significant agreement marks a continued commitment to fostering collaboration and development in the Pacific region.
In a video message on Monday, Jaishankar expressed his enthusiasm for the occasion, stating, “It is my pleasure to deliver this message on the occasion of the signing of the MoU on the Annual Grant in Aid for implementation of Four Community Development Projects in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.”

Highlighting recent achievements, Jaishankar congratulated the Marshall Islands on successfully hosting the 10th Micronesian Games, noting the importance of cultural exchange and community engagement.
He also acknowledged the celebration of the 10th International Day of Yoga, thanking President Dr. Hilda Heine for her leadership during the events in Majuro.
Jaishankar Highlights India-Marshall Islands Partnership & FIPIC Initiatives
Jaishankar reflected on the longstanding friendship between India and the Marshall Islands, which has flourished through initiatives like the Forum of India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC).
He further cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks at the third FIPIC Summit, emphasizing the importance of recognizing Pacific nations as ‘large ocean countries’ rather than mere ‘small islands’.
The minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting sustainable development in the Pacific Islands, stating, “We consider it our responsibility to support the Pacific Islands in their quest for sustainable development. Climate change, natural disasters, poverty alleviation and healthcare are common challenges that we need to address together. And India is privileged to be a partner of the Pacific Islands in that regard.”
Jaishankar highlighted the progress made on commitments outlined by PM Modi at the FIPIC Summit, mentioning ongoing initiatives like proposals for desalination units and dialysis machines specifically for the Marshall Islands.
The MoU will facilitate the implementation of four critical community development projects: a community sports center in Ailuk Atoll, an airport terminal on Mejit Island, and community centers at Arno and Wotje Atolls.
Jaishankar asserted that these projects will enhance infrastructure and quality of life for the local population.
“India recognises the priorities and needs of the Pacific Island nations,” he noted, emphasizing collaborative efforts in healthcare, affordable medicines, education, and renewable energy.
Jaishankar further stated, “India is always ready to do more with our Indo-Pacific partners.”
